How long have you been in business? In Bixby Knolls? Jammin' Music will have its 5th anniversary in September of this year.
What prompted you to open your business in Bixby Knolls?
We are longtime residents of the area and know the community well. We saw that there were no businesses in the area offering music lessons, and decided we should fill that gap. There are many families in the neighborhoods surrounding Atlantic Avenue, and such a wealth of music offered in the local public schools, how could we fail? We opened our doors and have grown from a teaching staff of one to a staff of 10, and seen our student roster grow steadily.
What realizations have you made regarding your customers/clients and their affect on your business?
The majority of our clients come from the 5-mile radius surrounding Bixby Knolls, and represent a wide variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds. We feel blessed to be part of such a diverse community. Many of our customers believe in supporting local businesses, and we make sure to thank them for it! We also get a large number of new student signups from referrals, showing that our clients not only support us, they believe in the quality of our programs. Finally, we are continually evolving our class offerings based on input from our customers.
What makes your business different from others similar to yours in the area?
Though there are other music stores in the area, their focus is on retail sales, with lessons taught in dusty rooms in the back of the store. Our focus is music lessons and education. We pride ourselves on giving the best instruction possible, hiring university trained instructors that know how to make learning fun! Front desk staff is available at all times to attend to the needs of clients and students, and a comfortable waiting area with sofas, chairs, books, games, water and snacks are on hand for students and their families. We recently expanded our offerings to include art classes (drawing and painting). We plan on continuing to expand on this visual arts program, and possibly other arts programs, in the future.
What role in the community does your business fill?
Our business serves people of all ages looking for enrichment programs in music and arts. We participate in community events such as First Fridays, hosting a drum circle and live music for visitors. We also host visits from local elementary schools and preschools, who come to learn about the wonderful world of music at our center, free of charge.
Summarize what your business is all about.
In this age of "push-button" music, where so much of popular music is over-produced and over-digitalized, we believe it is of the utmost importance to keep music literacy and organic music making alive and well! Whether you're a mother of young children looking to introduce music to your toddlers (Little Jammers group music classes for ages 1-7), want to learn classical piano or rock guitar (private lessons, kids and adults) or learn to play in a band (Rock School for kids & teens, Weekend Warriors for adults) we have the right instructor for you. We teach all genres of music, from classical to rock to jazz and everything in-between! Private lessons are offered on piano, guitar, drums, bass, violin, viola, saxophone, clarinet, cello and voice. For those who do not want to seriously study an instrument, our First Fridays drum circles are a great way to release stress and participate in the music making fun!
